The Ritz-Carlton Luminara: A New Era of Luxury at Sea

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection – Marriott’s ultra-luxury cruise brand – became the first hotel company ever to launch its own yacht fleet. Announced in 2017, the project originally envisaged three small yachts (each with 149 suites for 298 guests). Its first vessel Evrima debuted in October 2022 with 149 suites, and Ilma followed in September 2024 with 224 suites. The newest ship, Luminara, set sail on 3 July 2025 from Monaco on a seven-night cruise via Cannes, Livorno and Portofino to Rome, culminating years of careful design and collaboration.

Design and Art

At 242 metres (794 feet) long, Luminara is the fleet’s largest superyacht. She carries up to 452 passengers in 226 all-balcony suites, each with a private terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows. The exterior was styled by Helsinki studio Aivan, the public lounges by Chapi Design’s Luxury Division (Toronto), the staterooms by AD Associates (London) and the lighting by DPA (UK). The overall palette is calm and luminous – soft blues and warm greys offset by rich walnut wood and Corchia marble – reflecting the yacht’s name (Latin for “light”).

Art plays a starring role onboard. Luminara’s collection includes 731 works – about two-thirds commissioned exclusively for this ship – exploring themes of light, travel and discovery. Guests will encounter pieces by modern masters such as Paul Klee, David Hockney, Alexander Calder, Henri Matisse, Gerhard Richter and Andy Warhol, continuing Ritz-Carlton’s tradition of gallery-quality art at sea.

Dining, Wellness and Amenities

Five restaurants and seven bars cater to diverse tastes. Standouts are Seta su Luminara – an Italian tasting-menu restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Fabio Trabocchi – and Beach House, a Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern fusion concept by chef Michael Mina. Other venues (Azur, Haesu Bit and Mistral) feature regionally-inspired menus, and the new Art Bar pairs craft cocktails with Cycladic art installations and ocean views.

Leisure facilities are equally sumptuous. On Deck 10 a panoramic sun deck offers a pool with two whirlpool spas and uninterrupted sea views. The Ritz-Carlton Spa provides rejuvenating treatments from ESPA, 111SKIN and Pisterzi. A two-level marina and floating platform let guests swim or launch into watersports (kayaking, paddleboarding, Seabobs and electric foils) directly from the yacht. Upscale shopping is onboard too, with boutiques for Cartier, IWC Schaffhausen and Piaget (on board for the first time), plus resort wear and curated designer labels.

Voyages and Heritage

Luminara continues Ritz-Carlton’s tradition of intimate, high-service cruising. Each yacht boasts one of the highest crew-to-guest and space-to-guest ratios at sea, ensuring personalised attention and a relaxed, club-like atmosphere. After the Mediterranean season, Luminara will sail in Asia – calling at Hạ Long Bay, Osaka and Bangkok in late 2025 – and then in Alaska and Canada in summer 2026. These itineraries emphasise secluded harbours and bespoke shore experiences, reflecting the brand’s legacy of luxury exploration.
